The HKUST-Nan Fung Life Sciences Joint Laboratory is looking for highly motivated and analytical individuals to fill the Research Assistant positions..

The appointee(s) will support various research projects within the Joint Laboratory by conducting computational analyses. They will work closely with graduate students and/or research staff within the Joint Laboratory. This will be an excellent opportunity to immerse oneself into an inter-disciplinary field that brings together information technology with biology. Duties include analyzing data sets using existing open-source tools, developing, and deploying custom-made scripts or programs that integrate with other tools, maintaining good records of the analyses performed and attending project meetings as needed.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Interest in the field of life sciences would be highly preferred. Knowledge of Linux-based systems and shell scripting, additional programming skills including Perl, Python, and R., and good organizational skills with an appreciation of software engineering practices are essential. Familiarity with the administration of Linux systems including troubleshooting software installation, deployment, and execution would be an asset. Working knowledge of Deep Learning/Machine Learning algorithms will be a plus. The appointee(s) should be independent with strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
